Nicole shoots to kill, gently. Small and delicate fragments of life, private and particular, and universal (for all) alike.

Another Time, Another Place: On the Works of Veronica Nicole Tetelbaum

I love the photographs (and films) of Nicole, precisely because they are not exactly my cup of tea. Her needle stopped at a different azimuth. Her voice, unmistakable.

It is very noticeable to the eye and heart of objects, even when at first glance, and deceptively, they seem almost banal. Familiar. Not heroic, not iconic, almost incidental.

Simplicity and clarity above all, with a touch of coolness. Dry ice. A little is all. Nicole shoots to kill, gently.

Small and delicate fragments of life, private and particular, and universal (for all) alike. And time stands still, water still, a state of sleep. Without noticeable drama.

Past time, past tense. Once (memory). Or timeless. Without a clock.

Emotions. Loneliness, longing, yearning, love. And places, different landscapes, objects, figures, and bodies.

A home, an eternal portrait, an animal.

The emotions are strong but suppressed. Someone, a slap of the breast.

The emotions are the twist. The complexity. Disturbing and settling in, not letting go.

Israel. The Israel of the periphery and of Tel Aviv, also Paris, and a trace or echo or a dust to scatter.

Love is the drug. Intimacy. Lesbian love. This is not the subject here but a given, like the color of your eyes.

Nicole will distance, and Nicole will bring close.

Even the photographer does not know how far. Like in love, not everything is under her control.

Just like in Blow-Up, by M. Antonioni.
